How this recipe nourishes you

Purple yam belongs to the family of Shan Yao (山药, Chinese yam, though ube is a close relative). It is classified as:

  • Sweet and neutral in nature.

  • Organs entered: Spleen, Lung, Kidney.

Key actions:

  • Tonifies Spleen qi → strengthens digestion, helps with fatigue, poor appetite, loose stools.

  • Nourishes Lung yin → moistens dryness, eases dry cough, supports respiratory balance.

  • Supports Kidney essence → linked to vitality, reproductive health, and long-term energy.

  • Stabilises and harmonises → gentle tonic, suitable for long-term use without being too cloying or heating.

When blended with oat milk, the drink becomes even more grounding and soothing for digestion, while honey adds moistening and harmonising qualities.

From a Modern Nutrition View

  • Rich in antioxidants → especially anthocyanins (the pigments that give it the purple color), which help fight oxidative stress and inflammation.

  • Supports digestion → contains resistant starch and fiber that feed beneficial gut bacteria.

  • Energy and satiety → complex carbs release energy steadily, helping avoid spikes and crashes.

  • Supports blood sugar balance → resistant starch may improve insulin sensitivity.

  • Micronutrients → good source of potassium (supports heart health), vitamin C (immunity, collagen), and manganese (metabolism, bone health).

The Ube Latte is a gentle well rounded tonic that blends tradition and modern nutrition. Creamy, lightly sweet, and soothing, it supports digestion, energy, and vitality while bringing a touch of comfort to your day.
